Merissa Martinez isn't a career politician looking for her next title. Raised with a deep appreciation for the wide-open spaces, tight-knit communities, and independent spirit that define this corner of the state, Merissa has built her life here, raised her family here, and invested in this community for years. Merissa brings more than 12 years of real-world experience in finance, accounting, and payroll to this race. As the Administrative Assistant for the South of Laramie Water & Sewer District, she manages payroll, utility billing, and accounts payable and receivable, and reconciles seven separate bank accounts — while preparing the district's monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and budgets. She understands firsthand what it means to be responsible with public funds.

Merissa develops and maintains annual and monthly budgets by tracking expenditures, forecasting financial needs, and keeping spending aligned with organizational goals. She prepares detailed financial reports, monitors spending across multiple accounts, and gives leadership the clear information they need to make sound decisions. When audit season arrives, she coordinates the entire process — organizing financial records, reconciliation reports, and compliance documentation, communicating directly with auditors, responding to their requests, and making sure every material meets state and county reporting standards.

Her career has been built on that same discipline. Before her current role, she managed QuickBooks systems, payroll, and profit-and-loss reporting for a local contracting company, and oversaw financial reporting for dozens of rental properties. In 2025 she earned her Bachelor of Business Accounting from Grand Canyon University and became a certified Public Notary — because she believes the person handling your tax dollars should never stop sharpening the skills the job demands.
